I believe that life is about living your passions. My passions are building and making a difference in people’s lives. Through Orchard Creek I am able to do both.
Orchard Creek Health Care Facilities and Cedar Creek Senior Apartments started as a dream about 15 years ago when I acquired the property. I knew I wanted to build a retirement community, but that was about it. I began researching the best in retirement living, traveling the country visiting developments that had won “Best in Senior Living” awards through the National Home Builders Association. That gave me a good idea of the type of place I wanted to build.
After years of planning, the original Cedar Creek Commons was built. It included 80 condominiums designed for retirees and a 50-unit senior apartment building. Orchard Creek’s 34-unit assisted care facility was added in the late 1990’s, followed by the Memory/Dementia Care unit in 2002. I just couldn’t stop there. The Skilled Nursing unit was soon added, featuring a fully equipped rehabilitation center. Each of our facilities has been designed from the ground up for a specific use, allowing us to place each resident in a living situation that fits their individual needs.
Our latest addition is the newly-opened Supportive Care facility. This is a great transition for residents who need a little more extra care than the assisted living center offers, but are more independent than the skilled nursing care unit. With Supportive Care, I feel we have created the finest facility of its kind in northern Michigan, completing the latest step in our overall goal to create a “Community of Care.”
Not only am I the owner and developer of Orchard Creek, but I am also a son with an aging parent. My mom moved into our senior apartment building several years after my dad passed away. She now serves as our unofficial activities director keeping the residents busy with water aerobics, card game nights, pot luck dinners, and travel adventures.
One of the best things that my mom ever said to me was “your father would be so proud.” I know I‘m proud of our caring staff that makes such a difference in so many lives-- not only in keeping our residents safe, secure and entertained, but also helping to ease the worries of their families.
I’d like to welcome you to visit us and see for yourself the things that make Orchard Creek such a wonderful place to live and call home.
